“The emotional Ko Jin-young... Welcoming Korean golfers”

“I can still see Ko Jin-young's emotional reaction to the Korean flag descending from the sky during the awards ceremony. It's not a dream to play a round on that course. Evian is waiting for passionate Korean golfers.”

Mathieu Camison (FRA), General Manager of Evian Resorts Golf Clubs, who is on his third visit to Korea, picked at his pork belly with skillful chopsticks. “Evian Resorts and its golf courses have a lot to offer, especially for Koreans.”

I met with Camison on the 26th and 27th of this month at the invitation of global golf technology company AGL. After arriving in Seoul on the 26th with three representatives from Terre Blanche Golf Resort, Mr. Camisson met with representatives from local travel agencies and airlines at a hotel in Jongno-gu on the 27th to introduce the French golf travel product.

Evian Resorts Golf Club is no stranger to Korean golfers and golf fans. Five Korean players have won the Evian Championship on the U.S. Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour, including Ko Jin-young in 2019, Jeon In-jae in 2016, and Kim Hyo-joo in 2014. Korean players say it's “similar to a mountain course in Korea,” and golf fans watching on TV think so too.

General Manager Camison, who has played a few rounds in Korea, agrees: “I agree with the Korean players. Evian, a mountain course in the Alps, hosts the only major tournament on the European continent for both the PGA and LPGA tours, and its top-notch course management and varied terrain of uphill and downhill slopes make for a unique challenge. The views of the vast Lake Leman are also spectacular, with the option of crossing the lake to Lausanne, Switzerland,” said Mr. Hughes. “At the Evian Championships awards ceremony, the skydivers unfurl the flags of the winners' countries, and it's fantastic to see the broadcast cameras capture the Sanssouci and the lake in the background.” At the end of the competition, he said, the athletes all say, 'I can't wait to come back here again.

He has been with Evian since 2017, having previously headed up the sponsorship business at Media Groupe Europe 1. “The Danone Group, which includes the bottled water brand Evian, has a huge turnover,” he says, adding that ”the golf course is one of the two great mountain ranges in France, along with Terre Blanche near Nice, in terms of course quality and service.” Nevertheless, he explained that the green fee on a weekday is around 190,000 won, including cart fees.

General Manager Camison, whose best time for a full marathon is 3 hours and 15 minutes and who also enjoys mountain marathons, said, “I heard that Koreans are doing a lot of trail running these days. “Evian is the perfect place for trail running as well as golf,” he said, adding, ‘With five-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants, a unique kids’ club and a great golf academy, I'm sure there is no better place for a family vacation.
