Technology IT companies are actively expanding into overseas golf course booking services 12/23/2023

Global golf tech company AGL has launched a service for booking tee times at the world's top 100 golf courses, known for being difficult to book, showcasing the active expansion of technology IT companies into the international golf course market.

TIGER GDS, developed by AGL, the company that introduced the Global Distribution System (GDS) used in the travel industry for airline tickets and hotel reservations, has recently connected it to real-time bookings for the world's most popular golf courses, through its "Top 100 Courses Special Event" campaign.

AGL's "Top 100 Courses Special Event" includes golf courses that have been recognized as some of the best in the world. This list features Pebble Beach Golf Links, which has been selected by Golf Digest as the world's top public golf course and has also hosted the prestigious US Women's Open, the largest major tournament of the year. It also includes Le Golf National, which will host the golf events for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and Oitavos Dunes in Portugal, listed in the World's Top 100 Courses by golf Magazines.

Furthermore, Trump Turnberry Golf Resort, renowned for hosting the Open Championship four times and considered a prestigious course, as well as Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, the 2025 Open Championship venue, have been added to the list. In Japan, tee times can be reserved at Miyazaki Phoenix Country Club, the site of the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament, Izumigaoka Country Club, and The Bluffs Ho Tram in Vietnam, recognized as one of the best golf courses in the southern region of Vietnam.

Usually, GDS systems are commonly used for hotel and flight reservations, but the domestic company AGL has integrated it into golf, allowing for not only tee time bookings but also seamless integration with hotels and resorts, as well as the development of various golf-related packages. Domestic financial institutions, travel agencies, as well as partnerships with international travel agencies and information portals, are actively pursued.

The "Top 100 Courses Special Event" includes key players from various industries, including airlines, comprehensive travel agencies, OTAs (Online Travel Agencies), financial mobile apps, booking platforms, and more, such as Asiana Airlines, Modetour, Shinhan Sol, MyRealTrip, WAG, and HeyTime.

According to AGL officials, they started offering real-time overseas golf booking services in the second half of last year, and within just one year, they have seen an increase of more than 25 times in overseas golf users. Furthermore, starting in 2024, they plan to expand their business globally by partnering with UOB, a leading bank in Singapore, to provide golf travel reservation services to golfers in Singapore.
