What is the average age of a golfer visiting a golf course? I'm curious,
but the answer came out to a vague question. 50.3 years old.
AGL, a developer of "TIGER GDS," a platform that connects tee times at golf courses around the world,
analyzed big data related to users and consumption of major golf courses nationwide (2019-2021)
in cooperation with KT, a leading Korean telecommunication company, and BC Card.
Last year, 34.4% of golf course users were in their 50s, 21.8% were in their 40s and 21.1% were in their 60s.
After that, 10.6% of those in their 30s, 6.2% of those in their 20s, and 4.4% of those in their 70s or older were counted.
In particular, after the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the MZ generation in the metropolitan area
showed a high increase of 52.4% in their 20s and 40.3% in their 30s.
The gender ratio of golf course users was 66.5% for men and 33.5% for women.
Jeju Island and Gangwon Province have the smallest difference in the ratio of men and women,
and the two regions have many resort-type golf courses as major tourist destinations,
and the gender ratio of male and female users was less concentrated than other regions due to stay-type travel destinations.
As a result of measuring the time when golfers stay at the golf course, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
was the highest at 27.6%. Looking at the changes in the usage time zone over the past three years,
the number of users increased from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., while the number of stays decreased after 2 p.m.
Due to the influence of COVID-19, the ban on gathering in the afternoon, distance, and flexible working hours seem to have affected the usage time.
By age group, those in their 50s had the largest number of users at noon, those in their 20s and 30s,
who are MZ generation, had the highest usage rate during dawn and night, and those in their 70s
and older had the highest usage rate of golf courses during the morning to relax in the evening.
The number of golf course users has increased by 9.6% annually over the past three years when COVID-19 spread,
the survey showed. In particular, compared to before COVID-19, the popular system was 18.3%
and the membership system was 22.2%, increasing the overall average by 20%.
The area with the highest average annual increase in users was the southern part of the metropolitan area,
14.6%, and Jeju Island had the second highest rate of 12.3%. Meanwhile,
the rate of revisiting golf courses was the highest in the country in the metropolitan area.
As a result of analyzing big data on BC Card's consumption expenditure, personal cards increased by 20% and corporate cards increased by 23%,
respectively, and customers with high revisit rates more than 12 times a year were more than 40% higher per transaction
than visiting customers less than three times are a reminder of the importance of loyal customer management.
AGL's Golf Consumer Report (GCR), the first golf course user analysis data in Korea
that contains all of these contents, is scheduled to be announced in August.
